CLAYTON PESHLAKAI

There are artists… and then there are craftsmen of life.
Clayton Peshlakai is both.

Born in Window Rock, Arizona, and deeply rooted in the spirit of the land, Clayton’s journey is not one of traditional paths—it is one of discovery, discipline, and purpose. Largely self-taught, his creative foundation began not in galleries, but in the hands of his family—watching his grandmother weave, his great-grandmother create, and learning early that true art is born from function, tradition, and meaning.

His path led him through the world of engineering, welding, and large-scale fabrication—working with raw materials, mastering fire, steel, and structure. Over time, this evolved into something far greater: the ability to transform metal into emotion.

Today, Clayton creates powerful contemporary sculptures and one-of-a-kind jewelry, blending industrial strength with Native American heritage. His work spans aluminum, stainless steel, bronze, and mixed metals—each piece carrying both weight and story. From large-scale outdoor installations to intimate wearable art, his creations reflect a deep connection to culture, craftsmanship, and identity.

Beyond the studio, Clayton has also spent years in the film and television world, appearing in productions throughout New Mexico—bringing yet another layer of storytelling into his life’s work.
What makes Clayton truly special is this:
He doesn’t just create art—
He builds it from the ground up, with his hands, his history, and his spirit.

We are proud to represent Clayton Peshlakai at DeBilzan Gallery in Santa Fe, where his work stands as a powerful balance between tradition and modern expression.
